In Member Profiles, Thinking of Moving to Vallarta, US, Washington, Where We are From

Gary EyringStatus: Couple

Employed or Retired: Semi-retired

Where are you living now / where are you from: Seattle, WA

Timeframe for a move: Within a year

Where else are you considering: Costa Rica, Belize

Why Vallarta: We already have a mutual ownership for 25 years at Playas Gemelas (we have about 2 months a year). Are looking for a permanent place to live out our retirement years. At the same time, I need excellent internet access. I already use AT&T cell phones, but don’t know what living in PV will do to my plan, as I’d like to maintain the phone numbers I have had for many years, particularly with existing clients. I am open to possibilities.

How can ExPats in Vallarta assist you: Moving process, passports, locations (like water), prefer renting to owning, You know, just reaching out as we consider where to go next. Tired of US as a permanent place to live.

    Hi Gary,

I’m moving down to PV in a few weeks and am still researching the “phone dilemma.” I met a guy at the Sports Bar on the Marina in November who swears by T-Mobile. It’s definitely WAY less expensive than ATT, which I have had for many many years. You can keep your phone number. They have different plans, but for unlimited text, calls, and internet of 1GB, free music streaming, no roaming charges, and VoIP over cellular data (which ATT doesn’t have), I will be paying $50/month.

However, a guy at ATT said that T-Mobile only has 2G capacity. I don’t think that’s what the T-Mobile gal told me. Still researching. Internet is pretty good down there, as long as you’re not in Conchas Chinas or Mismaloya. Most cafe’s have free internet as well. I spend a lot of time hanging with my MAC at cafe’s in El Centro. Love the buzz and energy.

    Hope this helped!
