In California, Member Profiles, Thinking of Moving to Vallarta, US, Where We are From

Jeff BoelterStatus: It’s Complicated

Employed or Retired: Retired

Where are you living now / where are you from: I live in Joshua Tree, California, and it’s beautiful here but is not attached to the Pacific Ocean. I am from Orange County, Calif., and belong on Mother Pacific.

Timeframe for a move: April 2015

Where else are you considering: I traveled to Montanita/Olon Ecuador last May and really liked it there, but I have an extremely large dog that has proved to be difficult to transport there.

Considered Leon, Nicaragua of which I do plan to visit once I am settled in Mismaloya.

Why Vallarta: Location. I need to get out of the high desert. Vallarta really captures my attention mostly because of many comments written on this webpage. Healthy diet, living style is very appealing to me. Want to let my dog play and excercise in the Pacific.

How can ExPats in Vallarta assist you: Seems like not much to it. I plan to have a friend drop me across border, rent a car, and drive to PV on highway 2 to 15/15D to 200 to Mismaloya. As long as the ocean stays to my right I should be ok. Immunizations on dog with USDA stamp within thirty days should be easy. Thanks to your current members for their informative posts.

Be careful driving down, not sure how safe it is anymore?? You can fly Volaris from Tijuana for pretty inexpensive and wouldn’t have to worry about getting a rental car back. There is lots of easy walking in PV as well as wonderful bus service. Some buses will allow a larger dogs especially if you can get ur dog a therapy badge as i just took a lady and her labridoodle on the Bocca de Tomatlan bus to hike to Las Animas and the driver let her on, but hesitated for a bit.

You’ve got to be careful driving. Flying from TIJ on Volaris is quite inexpensive and everything is within walking distance in Old Town and there is a great bus system. Took a lady hiking last week with her labridoodle and she had a therapy bade so the bus driving let her on the bus along with 2 other smaller dogs.

Thanks again Linda, Flying is not an option I have with this extra large dog, I wish it were. His crate is too large to load in a 737. I have been beating myself up trying to figure out how to get him there, and keep coming back to driving there. I’ve even considered hiring someone from PV to drive up here to pick me up, and bring me, and Kona to PV, it is at least a 2 day drive. I’ve travelled internationally (Europe) before, crossing international borders, so I’m not too intimidated.
