Well, you have chosen wisely. My wife and I have lived her almost twelve years and originally from the SF East Bay. I am a retired CHP officer. It is very safe here and their are tons of Expat activities. Too many restaurants to go to them all. Many Expat groups i.e. Church groups, card groups, garden groups, yoga & Zumba etc.

The best time to lock in a rental here is in the low season April to October. The owners of property here want to rent to Gringos because of reliability. You can and should try to bargain with them. We got a lower price from $350 to $300 by paying in advance for a year. The laws here favor the tenant. It is very difficult to evict someone that is why the like Gringos because we tend to be reliable paying the rent. P.s. When I was injured on the CHP I ended up owing a RE and property management firm.
