Knee Repaired By Injection In Puerto Vallarta

 In Health Care

By: Carolina Archer

Back when I was about 40, I had arthoscopic surgery on my knee for a destroyed meniscus as well as the surrounding ligaments. So much for volleyball. Ever since the surgery it has been a problem and somewhat painful causing me to give up skiing since I had to have a huge brace.

Once in a while it would just give out if I turned a certain way.  Recently I did it again. For the last few months I have been miserable and could hardly walk. Diprospan injections briefly helped but that was only very temporary.

Hyalgan injections (Mexican brand is Suphylan) for knee pain is like a miracle. I had three knee injections over a period of three consecutive weeks along with self injected Mobicox to reduce swelling. The cost was $1,500 pesos (about $115USD) per visit including the doctors consultation.

So that was $4,500 pesos total (about $345USD). I checked in advance and the cost in the US was $900 NOT including the doctors consultation.

These Hyalgan injections are a lubricant because my knee was bone  against bone.

Hyalgan   www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-4060-hyalgan+iatc.aspx  is apparently a relatively new product and claims to eliminate arthoscoptic surgery sometimes.

My doctor is Dr Alberto Marron, orthopedic surgeon at Amerimed Hospital in Puerto Vallarta.

Hello….It is now 2 years later and i would like to know if you are still having injections or have taken a different approach to your knee pain. I live outside of Puerto Vallarta (Yelapa) and life requires mobility. I have mild to moderate arthritis and just had cortisone shots in my knees which changed my life. I know they won’t last however, so I would really like to explore the effectiveness of Hyalgan injections. Knee replacement is not an option yet…

I have had a life changing experience with these injections. My first series lasted 2 and one half years. I am on my second treatment going on one year. Basically pain free unless I make a turn my knee doesn’t like. I would highly recommend it. I had it done in the US as its covered my Medicare. I know its way more costly then in Mexico., and it doesn’t work on everyone. I was one of the lucky ones it did work well on. I am now told I would benefit by Stem Cell treatment. I saw Dr Marrone at Amerimed last year and I would like his contact info and any feed back on anyone that has used him for this or any other Dr’s in Pv that do this, PLEASE.. Thanks for your help.
