In Florida, Member Profiles, US, Where We are From

Victoria & Daniel DolciStatus: Couple

Employed or Retired: Semi-retired

Where are you living now / where are you from: Living in Orlando, Florida. I’m originally from North Carolina and Daniel is from Cocoa Beach but has lived in California and Andros Island. Yes, we are accustomed to hot/warm weather and humidity having lived in Florida for 30 years.

Timeframe for a move: We are planning a “kick the tires” trip in August or September of this year. If we love it and get it meets most of our criteria.  We’d like to make the move in early 2016 if we can get all our “proverbial ducks in a row”.

Where else are you considering: Last year we visited San Miguel de Allende. Thought it was great but hubby loves the ocean so we started looking at the Pacific.

We also considered Lake Chapala, but had some concerns about medical. We looked at Mazatlan as well.

Why Vallarta: We’re honing in on Puerto Vallerta because of the climate, access to ocean, boating, snorkeling, fishing, medical, cost of living, access to shopping, and general look of the city. We’ve driven around the city on Google Maps a number of times.

How can ExPats in Vallarta assist you: We’re looking forward to our visit to Puerto Vallarta end of this summer and would love to meet up with some of you and get some of our many questions answered. We’re getting  alot of conflicting information off the web about health insurance, how to best transport our belongings to Mexico, moving pets across the border, buying a house, etc. How many expats are in Puerto Vallerta?

Our plan, after our initial visit, is to live there for at least 6 months and rent a home before considering buying.

We’re also wondering about long term care in Puerto Vallarta.

You have picked the right place. We have lived here 12 years full time. There are about 40,000 to 50,000 Expat full time here. Best to buy a car here because legalizing it will cost you an arm and a leg. We know because we did it two years ago. There are tons of activities for the gringo community and you don’t ever have to go to the same restaurant twice unless you want. You can bring your dog into the country but need a vets report that the dog/cat is healthy and had all its shots. Go on google and ask your questions about bringing your furniture. I know it has to be inventoried. You also are allowed one time to bring your household goods into the country but check current Mexican law on Google.

I am a retired CHP officer and my wife and I are currently missionaries here teaching English in an orphanage. You can e-mail us at HisWillHisWayMinistriespv@gmail.com

Thanks Dennis for responding to my post.
We are currently evaluating the logistics of driving down with out dogs and a trailer or transporting our stuff and flying us all down by plane.
We are planning on renting our house and renting there to start with. Deciding whether to drive or fly is becoming a big deal but I know that the way will become clear to us as we go forward.
I will send you a private e-mail. Good for you for teaching English. We’d both like to give back to the community once we are there. We had a sustainable farming business and installed systems for schools. I am an independent contractor for a design company in Maine, which I will continue to do in Mexico when I’m not diving, boating, eating, etc. LOL
